The award was presented to Marz from www.srosurf.com at the recent WA Surf Industry Ball held at Observation City in Scarborough. Members of the WA Surf Industry (shop owners/manufacturers etc) voted www.srosurf.com as the winner unanimously with the site taking the award in a clean sweep. "Boy I' am stoked with the award. I had to bum the $60 to go to the ball off my sister as the organizers said I had to be there, I had no idea I was going to win the best surf website award. It now adds to the credibility the site already has not only from the general publics point of view, but also from the surfing Industry" said Marz, "It's been a long hard slog for the last few years and the site still does not break even, but to tell you the truth I haven't really gone out of my way to try and market it. We were burn't by one owner of an East Coast based website that owed us a considerable amount of money and others not only within the surf industry, but by other reporters that worked for them. The site started going ballistic with the amount of people visiting the site quite considerable. We endeavor not use foul language or references to binge drinking or drugs on srosurf.com as a lot of our visitors to the site are kids " said site owner/operator Marz, "There are many surfing websites around that web surfers can go to, but they always seem to come back to us" he added. The site is aimed more towards the recreational surfer and at times has tackled issues which others would not. It was the first site to highlight the Smiths Beach saga on the net and various other Environmental issues including helping to abolish beach fees in the South West area. The site has developed a huge cult following with visitors to the site that include, teachers, students, fishermen, universities, schools, doctors, lawyers, politicians, the military (including the US Navy), media, professional surfers and other ocean lovers just to name a few. "It's kinda weird how one small operator like myself can give the big guys a shake, but then again I suppose it has to do with listening to what the surfing fraternity wants on the site and what they do not.
