Clearwater Surfboards to relocate to Queenslands Goldcoast.

Del Rosso happy at the opportunity.

Some are calling it the end of an era, while some are calling it the beginning of another for Clearwater Surfboards.

Clearwater Surfboards have been manufacturing quality surfboards for local WA surfers for over 20 years and as the company prepares to close their factory doors in Rockingham a new era is about to unfold.

One of the reasons for the closure includes a lack of highly trained craftsmen, brought about by our states current mining and resources boom, but the main reason is master craftsman Steve Del Rosso has been given the opportunity to join a company boasting an elite group of shapers considered by the surf industry and their peers as some of the best shapers in the world.

This rare opportunity also allows the Clearwater label to grow outside of its traditional West Australian roots, exposing it both internationally and to the east coast of Australia.

Del Rosso, who has been the main craftsman of Clearwater Surfboards for the past 11 years is excited to being joining B.A.S.E (Boards and Surfing Equipment).

He is relishing the opportunity to work along side some of the worlds best shapers, Darren Handley, Simon Anderson, and Murray Burton.

Not many of the up and coming grommetts that frequent the beaches of the world realise that Burton is the man responsible for teaching and mentoring two of Australia's best surfboard shapers, Darren Handley (DHD Surfboards) and Jason Stephenson (JS Surfboards).

The opportunity for Del Rosso to work with Burton and some of the top shapers is a dream come true.

"I could not, knock back the opportunity to watch and learn from some of the best shapers in the world. To me this is more than a dream. If you look at the shapes that are under the feet of some of the worlds best surfers, you will see that most eminate from the B.A.S.E. factory. I'm more than stoked," said DelRosso, "It will give me.

B.A.S.E are the biggest surfboard manufacturer in Australia producing anywhere from 450 - 500 surfboards a week. The company who not only distributes nationally is also renowned for their exports across the globe.

The high profiled factory which is located in Burleigh Heads QLD, is frequented by many of the worlds top surfers on the WQS and WCT circuit.

The process of ordering Clearwater surfboards will remain the same. Surfboards can continue to be ordered directly through Steve or Clearwater's beachfront store, with the only difference being that the boards will now be manufactured on the Gold Coast.

"Nothing changes, if anything the manufacturing process should be a lot quicker and more reliable with a vast network of glassers at our disposal, it will be business as usual", said DelRosso.

Clearwaters beach front store now boasts one of the largest range of respected shapers, like Simon Anderson, Darren Handley, Murray Burton and Skye to name a few.

Clearwater Surf's two retail stores will continue trade, but the beach front store will be more geared up to the hardware side of things, making it a true hard core surf store.
