TUESDAY 13/09/05. Founder of the Rusty Gromfest passes away. David Sandercock founder of the Rusty Gromfest has passed away. . Even though the fifty eight year old was unwell, he still made his annual pilgrimage to this years 10th gromfest to watch the groms ripping. He started surfing on the first modern foam boards in South Australia, a member of the Sand & Sea club. Dave was known as a smooth goofy foot stylist who liked to keep up with the progressive new turns & tricks. He helped school surfing get established in South Australia along with Sue Bennett . He travelled with the Australian team at the first World School Surfing titles in California in the 80's. He always helped the groms. Later moving to Lennox Head he was a member of Lennox - Ballina Boardriders along with his sons Tim, Caleb and Joseph. David founded the Rusty Gromfest and created a different vibe on the beach. Bringing families of our nationwide surfing communities together at an annual event, a red carpet experience for the groms. David has many friends all over Australia who will miss his effervescence, warmth, compassion, giving and positive energy.
